Frank Rodriguez

Founder, Head Coach

Coach Frank founded 33Rodz Baseball in 2018. With over 30 years of professional coaching and playing experience, he has developed hundreds of some of NYC's best baseball players. Prior to his tenure in the big leagues, Coach Frank would go on to play at JUCO powerhouse, Howard College. Rodriguez led the JUCO ranks in home runs (26) and pitching strikeouts (139), and was named MVP of the Junior College World Series. He is a recipient of the Dick Howser Trophy. Drafted as a SS/P as the 1st pick in the 2nd round by the Red Sox in the 1990 MLB Draft, Coach Frank would go on to spend 10 years in the big leagues playing with the Red Sox, Mariners, Twins, and Reds. During his time with the Twins, he was named Pitcher of the Organization.

He is the Associate Head Baseball Coach at Mercy College (NCAA DII). Prior to his time at Mercy College, he was the Assistant Coach at SUNY Maritime College (NCAA DIII).  

Samantha Rodriguez

Head of Operations & Softball Development, Assistant Head Coach

Coach Sam is one of the most accomplished softball players to come out of NYC. Coach Sam has a

decorated collegiate career having played at CUNY Brooklyn College from 2013-2016 and professionally in Puerto Rico. She is ranked 5th all-time in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC). She was a 4x CUNYAC First-Team All Star and ranked nationally in DIII in slugging percentage, triples, and toughest to strikeout in the 2013 and 2015 seasons. Rodriguez was also a member of the BC women’s soccer team where she was a goalie. After her time at Brooklyn College she played professional softball in Puerto Rico for the Buccaneers. She was also a member of the famous Stratford Brakettes. 

In 2018 and 2019 she participated in MLB’s Take the Field program, a diversity initiative geared towards exposing women to careers in professional baseball. She has coached and mentored girls in the “Baseball For All” organization, a nationally recognized non-profit which provides girls opportunities to play baseball. Over the last 5 years she has hosted numerous softball and baseball camps and clinics and has also served as a guest coach and instructor for youth travel baseball and softball programs all in the tri state area. Rodriguez holds both a BA in Philosophy (2016) and an MS in Sports Management (2017) from CUNY Brooklyn College.
